Rail / Rail Passes in France (TGV)?

My boyfriend and I are going to France for three weeks (22 days) and we want to travel the country by train. We planned our way, and we train schedules (times of departure and arrival), however, we are unaware of the process * Passing *. We know the railway line is the TGV, and we have our road (where we go and what we see) and the daily schedule set forth in … but apart from that, we are lost. We want to buy a rail pass that gives unlimited travel either for a specified number of days, or give us a number of trips train in a number of days or something like that. How (not) Rail Pass (s) work? How can we max our journey by rail without breaking the bank? Can someone enlighten us on how to travel with the train going in France?
