I am looking for the most popular destination at a reasonable price in Europe for about a week's holiday in October 2008.?
My wife and I would like finally go to Europe for our anniversary in 2008. Anyone have any reccomendations for a reasonable price wise destination? We'd need air RT Houston, TX and the hotel, rail passes or car rental etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ireland would be our first choice, but if there is something cheaper, we would certainly know that. Nothing is off the table for Russia to Spain. Thank you!
In October, a good destination will be Italy or Spain. Is still warm but not hot and not too expensive. Typically for price Northern Europe (Scandinavia) and is more expensive than the west in the south and east. The cheapest countries are Ukraine, Romania and Albania. But if you went there, I think you'd be very disappointed, as the reason why these countries are cheap is bc the people are poor. Now I do not know not how long you have, but if you have three weeks I propose to spend two weeks in Spain and a week in Morocco. You entered Madrid and rent a car. You can visit South Spain (Granada, Toledo, Gibraltar) before dropping the car and heading by train and ferry to Morocco. Morocco is much cheaper than Spain and see the country could make you appreciate and understand Spanish and Mexican heritage better. (Plus you can say you've been to Africa.) Otherwise, you could go to Italy. Railpasses are a waste of money in Italy, you should just buy tickets point-to-point, it is cheaper. You would need 2 weeks to see the highlights. For a short one-week trip, I suggest you visit Portugal, Andalusia (Southern Spain) or Hungary. Hungary is the cheapest. For Hungary, you can fly to London or Frankfurt, then take a budget flight to Budapest. You could do a combined Budapest-Bratislava-Vienna travel, using trains and boats to travel along the Danube. Airfare from Houston should be in the range of $ 800 per person. October is not the high season, so it should not be too difficult to get a decent price. For your stay you need to budget of approximately EUR 200 per day for both of you if you stay at hotels and hostels and eating out. You can also look into renting a motorhome or is taking camping gear (tent, sleeping bags) with you. Staying in campgrounds (or homes) is much cheaper than staying in hotels, it could reduce the cost your trip in half. Rental cars must be booked in a package with theft by a travel agent. Bon Voyage Special organizations can help you "fly + Drive "packages with significantly reduced costs of renting the car.
