How much more expensive European Rail Passes at the station?
I take a trip to France next month but I'm traveling solo and do not know anybody going on the trip. I do not want to buy a train ticket one month in advance, and then end up going by myself, because I will definitely make friends with other students there. I have only time to see the border countries and the countries closest to my hometown France will be in Switzerland, Germany and Luxembourg. Online tickets are about $ 36 (U.S. dollars) for the economy, but I heard they are more expensive at the station so it is best to book in advance … my question is how much more expensive? At least from your travel experience.
I can guarantee that, even online, tickets will cost more than $ 36. Short trips are good market, but travel cross-country cost much more. Buying tickets in advance is the best way to save money than buying just prior to travel means that you pay full price. You do not say where you stay in France, and where you intend to travel too, so it is not possible give approximate prices.
