Backpacking Europe with Eurail Pass question about seats …?
So my cousin and I are traveling through Europe a Eurail pass. I have done much research on them, but I do not know how far in advance do you need to book your place to train, can be the same day? Or should it be sooner? Any other tips would be great! We leave April 26 to May 26, so I know it is not quite the peak season yet, but anything you could tell me would be great! Thank you!
Reservations can be made up 90 days before departure. As to how to advance a reservation must be made, it depends entirely on the train. For example, night trains (where you would get a couchette or sleeper cabin) are very popular and can be sold in advance. If you travel during high season (summer) I recommend that you reserve all night trains at least two weeks in advance. Given the time of year you will be there, I encouraged to book well in advance as possible, but one week in advance is good. Do not count on a same day reservation, but Of course it is worth trying if you are unable to book in advance for any reason. For example, I booked an overnight train with a partner before leaving for Europe, and I had the top bunks in a compartment (which I prefer to have space for luggage menu). I made another reservation while in Europe for two weeks later and I managed to get two berths … but at lower level where the beds were close (not on all trains, but they were about it). If you are looking to get a reservation on a high speed train (Eurostar Italia, TGV, etc.), then the same day usually works. When I traveled in the middle of summer, I was able to obtain two seats on the TGV for a departure on the same day, but I could not get the choice of location of my choice. Comparatively, I had a Book Eurostar Italia from Florence to Venice literally three minutes before boarding, and we got the two seats we wanted. If you travel a train that is not included in the Eurail pass, but requires reservations, as the Eurostar between Paris and London or one of the Thalys trains, I recommends that you buy your tickets simply because the earlier you buy, the more likely you are to get a discount on the cost of the ticket. This Having said that, these trains can sell in advance, especially the Eurostar, so remember to book a start. As regards the terms reservation, you have a number of options. Pretty well a train trip in Europe can be booked from any major station in Europe, even if it is to travel to other countries. Just go to one of the wickets to get the reservations done. You can also book in advance on the Internet. http://www.raileurope.com is able to book excursions, but you'll pay a little more because they increase the cost of a commission. If you want to reserve the right Eurostar or Thalys, on their websites and http://www.eurostar.com http://www.thalys.com respectively. Bon voyage!
