Travel to Siena for the new year, the weather? attractions? trains?
My husband and I will travel to Siena, Italy, for a week From New Year's Eve. We will make a few trips to Florence, Venice and Rome. I would appreciate your insight regarding rail travel (for example, is part of Trenitalia Eurail, or purchase tickets separately?), bus trip (better, worse than the trains?) time (which is the climate in winter will I need a warm coat, layers?) and attractions (as it will not be the peak tourist season, some attractions will be open or closed on abbreviated schedules ?)… I hope this is not too much information to pack in a question … but if other travelers residents or have any suggestions, recommendations or tips, we are very excited to visit! Thank you –
I've been Siena during the summer months and in Rome in January. Weather – can be cold – would not expect to be in shorts! We took jackets Ski and gloves when we went to Rome in January and found that we were all a bar one day. Train travel in Italy is very good. You buy your tickets to train and validate them before boarding the train. Trains in Italy tend to run exactly on time and they have a two-storey ones. Have always was very clean and comfortable travel by train to have never bothered about anything else. Sienna is very good for shopping and have a fabulous place where everyone comes together – alongside the statues of Romulus and Remus and the she wolf. Rome will keep you busy for days, but to take good walking shoes! Zoo you can probably be missed, but the historical sites are fantastic. In fact access when the weather is cold is probably much more pleasant than in the heat of summer! Make sure to give time to Piazza Navona and its surroundings on an evening and just take in the atmosphere Enjoy the local cuisine and even if it is not hot – enjoy ice cream (gelaterie!) Enjoy!
