All roads lead to Heaven – Getting to your Bulgarian holiday home

With Bulgaria now a member of the EU, more tourists confidence straying off the beaten path in this country diversity. A popular option is to rent an apartment or a villa at a certain distance from the bustling resort of cities. The interior, south of Sofia, are some of the finest ski areas in Eastern Europe. And Eastern has pockets of growth vineyards and orchards that some are more enchanting than the sun of the Black Sea, the sea and the combination of sand. Everything is there, waiting to take the intrepid traveler The Road Less Traveled – and half the fun is getting there!

Air travel is the most popular choice, naturally. And if you do not already live in Europe or the Middle East continent, it may be the only choice. There are four international airports operating in Bulgaria: Sofia, Varna, Bourgas and Plovdiv. EasyJet connects Sofia to London, Manchester, Madrid and Milan. The best value can often be found by flying to Germany and connecting there with a German airline. Indoor air travel has not yet reached economic levels in Bulgaria – try Wizz Air and Bulgaria Air links to some of the city.

Like most of Eastern Europe, Bulgaria has developed a network of railways. But well developed means that it runs on time and covers many areas – but do not expect luxury or comfort of the Eurostar! The national railway company is Balgarski Dârzhavni Zheleznitsi – or BDZ for short. They have a website with schedules, but you must book tickets at the station person. During the vacation season tickets can be booked 20 days in advance, but in winter, which shortens to five days. It is indeed possible Travel from London to Sofia by train. It is a trip for two to three days if you take the Eurostar to Paris, then to Munich and take a train from Vienna to Sofia via Belgrade – three sets in total. The Vienna Sofia leg of the journey is most likely the least expensive – about £ 140 STG or 200 euros for a bed in a bed of three people – but also the least comfortable. But the landscape as the train rushes through the rocky hills of the Balkans, is a sight to see, and hardness of your bed is the last thing on your mind! Bring a bottle of wine or two, Some snacks and settle in for a memorable trip of 24 hours.

If you want rent a car for your holiday, you could have an affair in advance if you are accustomed to smooth highways all of Western Europe. If you choose to take your own car rather than lease, you may find it quicker to take the ferry from Italy to Greece. At the border you will be asked to pay a road tax small – about five euros for a week. Check dates on the sticker they give you before leaving, because if they are incorrect, you can be fined. There are potholes galore on Bulgarian roads, and more inside you, the tougher the conditions become. Near mountainous areas, landslides are not uncommon. In rural villages, you might even meet the vehicle occasional four-legged … A car may be the only option if you intend to take the path of a rental Holiday in Bulgaria outside of a major tourist destination. Fortunately all new road signs were now in English lettering and Bulgaria, but some of the elders are still in Cyrillic. If this does not discourage you, conduct an international campaign to license and on the right side of the road – And do not forget that seat belts are mandatory for good reason!

Buses are a great value in Bulgaria. You can practically cross the country, traveling from Sofia to the Black Sea, less than twenty euros. But they take a little preparation. Most drivers do not speak Bulgarian and possibly Russian, and the destinations are written in Bulgarian Cyrillic. Bring a phonetic alphabet table with you, which corresponds to Bulgarian letters with their respective sounds represented in the English language (you can print out these sites many free). The Central New Bus Station Sofia serves destinations largest. On the coast, the private bus operators constantly up and down the coast, winding through the major tourist centers, and turns back around.

Bulgaria is much more diverse than some other destinations when it comes to regional activities – not many countries its size can offer skiing and adventure and salty white beaches. Fortunately, if you are willing and able to do some independent travel, you have all these options available to you!
