best way to travel through europe Best Way To Travel Through Europe
What’s the cheapest way to take a European Trip?

I reeeeally really want to go traveling this summer- back-packing through Europe. Between school and work, it’ll be hard to find time, but if I can do it I’ll be on a tight budget. What are the best options for doing this (especially in this economy!): to/from Europe, places to visit, etc. (I’d probably be staying in hostiles- so that’s not a concern.)

Thank you to all! =D Grazie!

I agree with you that hostels will be a big saving point. Otherwise, it depends where you want to be going and what you want to be seeing. Many great cities have free things to do, but do not forget the smaller towns outside of cities which are wonderful places to relax. Examples of this are the Cinque Terre in Italy or Gimmelwald in Switzerland.

First off, check as many websites as you can to get the best airfare. If at all possible, be flexible on dates as that will save you a great deal of money.

With the exception of Italy, a rail pass is usually the cheapest way to go in order to travel around (Italy trains are often cheaper if you just buy point-to-point tickets). If you are buying a pass, it pays to book in advance as you cannot get the same Eurail passes in Europe. Any pass you will buy there will be much more expensive.

Fortunately for you, a lot of places are trying to give promotions in this economy in order to keep up with business, so keep an eye out for that.

The biggest money-saving tip I can give you is to PLAN AHEAD. If you want a free-spirited trip then that is great, but it can also be more expensive if you do not know what a reasonable price is in advance. Planning in advance can let you know things like whether or not it is worth it for you to purchase a ROMA pass to see museums instead of just trying to pay admission to each one in Rome. As well, many cities have multi-day transit passes, but if you know that you will only need public transit on two of your five days there then it can help save you from making expensively unnecessary decisions.

Have a great trip!
